A 360 Degree Video Tale of the Mosilian Beauty Queen

When Ogilvy PR Shanghai and Mosilian, a leading Chinese yogurt brand, came to us with the task of how to bring to life an immersive 360 degree video campaign in the growing niche market of drinking yogurt, our challenge was distinct: how can we excite the massive, maturing Chinese market about the benefits of a brand that prides itself on a uniquely sourced bacteria?

As experts in captivating audiences through 360 films, mosilian-360-degree-video-1.jpgour team packed their bags and travelled to the Bulgarian mountain valley village of Momchilovtsi in search of its famed source of longevity, the key ingredient to Mosilian yogurt. Momchilovtsi has long been studied as it is home to some of the world’s oldest people, which has been attributed to their customary treat of drinking locally made yogurt. The nutritious drink is full of healthy, active bacteria native to Momchilovtsi which is what sets Mosilian apart from the rest of the €5bn Chinese yogurt market¹. Our team worked closely with Ogilvy PR Shanghai to share Mosilian’s enticing story in 360 video, following the Bulgarian Beauty Queen as she wanders through the village where the yogurt is made. 

For the experience, we set out to genuinely capture the essence of the village and did so by using a mixture of locked off shots and drone footage throughout the charming town as well as hiring the majority of the villagers as extras in a festive celebration scene. For this wide range of dynamic scenes, we utilised our fully-equipped 360 team including an experienced 360 drone operator and DOP to execute several technical shots in a fast-paced three-day shoot.

James Brown, 360 DOP at Happy Finish explained, “The brand wanted to send the viewer on a romanticised journey through the process of how their product is made, set against the backdrop of the Bulgarian countryside few are privileged to see. We were fortunate to work in such a remarkable place, adapting to vastly temperamental weather, encountering wild boars while shooting skyline timelapses, and most of all, being greeted by such a warm, welcoming community of Momchilovtsi."

To celebrate Mosilian’s newest celebrity ambassadors, Taiwanese pop group Mayday, the VR project was released at a fan meet-and-greet event with over 1500 participants experiencing the film together. Prior to the event, each guest received a branded passport and ticket to an unknown destination. They were then happily surprised by our VR voyage to the town of Momchilovtsi.
