We start 2013 on natural high with the release of the print campaign for Sky's new 3 part series; Galapagos 3D, documented by the legendary Sir David Attenborough!
CGI artist Chris Davis and retoucher Jake Hickman, worked closely with the creative team at Sky to create the final visuals for this campaign, to re-create a photo-realistic version of the native Galapagos Hoodensis tortoise in CGI.
It was important that we faithfully re-created the specific features of the Hoodnesis tortoise. As one of the largest species of tortoise to ever roam the planet we spent quite a bit of time focusing on the finer details that made the tortoise unique and then looked at the best way of replicating this in CGI to create a photo-realistic finish, comments Chris Davis.
The islands also needed to be recognisable so the team brushed up on their geography to study the volcanic rock formations that made up the Galapagos islands to then model and replicate using Zbrush & Maya. Carbon Scatter was then used to create the 3D models of the trees on the islands.
Sir David Attenborough was photographed by the fantastic Dimitri Daniloff and the final image was composited together by photo retoucher Jake Hickman. David Attenborough is one of Britain s greatest living icons and it was a real pleasure to have worked once again with Dimitri and the whole team at BSkyB on such a fantastic campaign explains Jake Hickman.
