Jaguar Land Rover wanted to create three films to promote the long term commitment of JLR to their customers, underlining the commitment and reliability of their Service Centre engineers, to be played via online channels and dealer showrooms worldwide.
Requiring a broad range of techniques to execute, Johnny Han and Thomas Hefferon were tasked with creating these films, and the video opposite is the culmination of that effort; three diverse and dramatic pieces with their own individual style.
The greatest production challenge was filming a cat, a car, a boy, an old town, a new town, a lake, and an entire photo shoot within 5 days. Luckily the beautiful city of Ljubljana, Slovenia provided them with the perfect setting.
Post-production at Happy Finish was then led by Johnny Han, where he could wear multiple hats as a Director but also a hands on VFX Artist, Supervisor, and Producer, which was imperative to achieve the efficiencies needed to meet a tight single deadline for 3 individual spots. Johnny was also aided by H2 films, an established production company of 15 years based in Dublin who were delighted to team up with Happy Finish.
"The Road" was an especially unique spot bridging the photographic and motion picture mediums. Using high resolution still photos and 3d scanned sets, Johnny and his team reconstructed the scenes in Nuke giving us real time 3d interactivity. Adding human-like movement to the characters was a handcrafted process, using new techniques developed by Johnny. Leveraging the photographic retouching and high end color grading Happy Finish is famous for, they were able to give the film a premium photoreal finish.
"Alive" features a real wildcat filmed at a private zoo in England. Motivated by a few buckets of raw chicken, the cat was trained to hit a number of stunts that were previzzed in CGI in advance of shooting, to ensure we made the best use of an extremely short window.
